Home: Home cinema sales still healthyWith the credit crunch (late 2008) biting into most product sales, electronics included, it may be surprising to hear that sales of home cinema systems are still buoyant. Indeed, it appears to be one of the few products to remain in favour
with consumers, with both unit sales and overall turnover at a healthy
margin for the past four months. The average price of a home cinema kit has remained steady for the past five years, in the region of two hundred and fifty pounds. For the past fifty two weeks, overall sales are at an all time high. The continued popularity and growth of sales in flat panel television sets seems to have aided sales of home cinema kits. With major retailers like Comet and Currys regularly packaging a flat panel TV and home cinema kit together. The average price figure is maybe somewhat misleading however. The success of independent retailers has been dramatic in the past four years. With sales of home cinema kits costing between four hundred and two thousand pounds increasing. The price of a 'basic' home cinema set from manufacturers like Hitachi
and Samsung, has therefore possibly decreased, but the increase of sales
of expensive manufactures like Arcam and Nad has helped keep the overall
price figure stable. The introduction of two channel cinema kits has also helped keep turnover ticking over. Now accounting for twenty percent of overall sales, these 2.1 systems have proved popular. For people with space at a minimum, or who wish not to clutter their living room up with five or seven speakers, a subwoofer and two speaker system appeals to a new set of customers. |
